GoyatDans le genre relativement prolixe de la SF anglophone dédiée aux combats spatiaux, il y a les grosses machines genre Honor Harrington (dont la qualité a fortement baissé dans ses derniers ouvrages, en passant) et pas mal de séries par des auteurs moins connus. Certaines sont du niveau de (mauvaise) fan fiction, d'autres font preuve d'originalité tout en s'appuyant sur les références classiques du genre naval (Horatio Hornblower et autres Master and Commander....).We lead est le dernier volume dans la série Ark Royal. L'écriture tient la route (pas de haut-le-coeur littéraire comme j'ai pu en éprouver à la lecture d'autres bouquins du même genre sur Amazon), l'univers est à la fois reconnaissable, cohérent et plausible. Les extraterrestres y sont décrits comme... extraterrestres, justement, en insistant sur le fait que leur culture et leurs motivations font d'eux autre chose que "des humains à front plissé".Le côté militaire (traditions navales, action) est bien rendu. Les personnages principaux sont assez fouillés pour prendre l'épaisseur nécessaire.Bref, si vous cherchez de la SF mili-spatiale de bonne qualité, les productions de C. Nuttall sont tout à fait recommandables et valent largement celles de David Weber, par ex (et on n'a pas besoin de lire des pages entières en diagonale...).
